What the Ale: Oklahoma’s newest brewery opens Saturday

Oklahoma’s newest brewery plans to open its taps to the public on Saturday, July 15.
The Stonecloud Brewing Co., located in the Historic Sunshine Laundry & Cleaners building at NW 1st and Classen in Oklahoma City, will celebrate with special beers, promotions and a full day of food and fun from 12-9 p.m.

“After three years of planning and preparation, it’s super exciting to see the project come to life. I’m very happy to finally get to serve some beer to Oklahoma City!” said owner and head brewer, Joel Irby.

Irby’s time working with Avery Brewing Co. in Colorado gave him a thorough education in brewing a top-notch product.

“Quality and consistency is very important to me, but I still want to experiment and have fun. Making exceptional beer takes time, high quality ingredients, and knowledge, but creativity and innovation are what make the process exciting. We want to make great beer, have a great time doing it, and ensure that our guests have a great time drinking it.”

The Sunshine Laundry building wasn’t much to look at. Most of the roof was missing and trees and other plants had grown through the floors. Irby’s partners, Jonathon Dodson, Ben Sellers, and David Wanzer, helped Irby visualize what it could become.

Stonecloud Brewing Co. will specialize in brewing IPAs, barrel aged, and sour/experimental styles of beer. They will be open Monday-Wednesday, 3-9 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, 12-9 p.m. and Sunday 10-6 p.m.
